El pewter o estaño, es una aleación de metales tradicionalmente, entre 85% a 99% de estaño, y el resto de cobre, antimonio, bismuto y plomo. El pewter mexicano esta considerado entre los de mejor calidad, por contener un gran porcentaje de estaño, al ser maleable, da oportunidad a plasmar en cada diseño la identidad de cada región, permitiendo al artesano mexicano transmitir parte de su cultura.
